Virginia: Virginia’s largest city, Virginia Beach, has passed sweeping revised laws to regulate short-term rentals that are listed on platforms like Airbnb.
The Virginian-Pilot reported that Virginia Beach’s regulations mark the first time the issue has been recognised in the city’s laws. The city, which has a population of nearly half a million people, is situated along the Atlantic Ocean in a region which is popular with tourists and locals alike.
The rules will place restrictions on the number of guests allowed in each rental as well as how often a place can be rented out. The regulations will also require officially regulated permits in most cases and $1 million in liability insurance coverage.
There are currently more than 2,200 properties registered as short-term rentals in Virginia Beach.
