UAE: Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing [DTCM] has ruled that holiday home operators can continue letting out their properties in Downtown Dubai, thereby reversing a potential ban being imposed by Emaar.
Just a fortnight ago, it emerged that the master developer had sent out a notification to homeowners in the Downtown area of the city advising them to cease all holiday home operations by 19 September. However, the DTCM has now intervened and ruled that they will not be forced to do so, according to the national publication, Gulf News.
According to its report, the DTCM will issue an official statement in due course.
The primary tourism authority in Dubai came to the decision that Emaar, as a master developer, was not within its right to impose a ban on holiday operations within districts of the city.
In total, the land in question included around 1000 short-term rental apartments in Downtown Dubai and is a popular area for tourists to visit and stay in because of its central location.
Emaar had issued its notification to prohibit holiday home operations in the Downtown due to a number of alleged complaints by local residents of various disturbances.
