US: Expedia has introduced an AI-generated tool that uses social media reels to create bookable travel plans in just a few clicks.
The tool, called Trip Matching, allows travellers to get AI-generated travel itineraries from Instagram reels they watch. This feature enables them to book hotels directly from the suggested itineraries.
Today, travellers visit up to 277 web pages before booking a trip, more than seven times the number of web pages in 2013. Expedia suggests that thanks to its user-friendly nature, Trip Matching could help reduce this number and streamline the booking process.
The tool integrates travel bookings within social media platforms, allowing users to make reservations without leaving apps like Instagram.
While Expedia has previously enabled bookings through Instagram’s in-app browser, Trip Matching expands this functionality by providing AI-driven travel suggestions inspired by social media content.
Travellers purchasing hotels through the AI-generated travel itineraries on Instagram’s in-app browser will still book through Expedia. Instagram will not be a Merchant of Records.
