UK: Travel Chapter, the parent company of holidaycottages.co.uk, has become a Certified B Corporation [B Corp], recognising its social and environmental impact within the travel sector.

The certification applies to holidaycottages.co.uk and Travel Chapter’s regional brands, placing the company among a global network of businesses committed to accountability, sustainability, and ethical business practices.

To achieve B Corp status, Travel Chapter underwent a rigorous assessment by B Lab, a non-profit organisation that evaluates businesses on their transparency, environmental impact, employee welfare, and community contributions.

As part of its sustainability strategy, Travel Chapter has:

  • Reduced fleet emissions by replacing high-emission vehicles with electric alternatives.
  • Donated £119,700 through its Regional Community Support and Sponsorship Programme to support 48 organisations.
  • Raised £13,695 for Cancer Research UK and partnered with other charities.
  • Encouraged employee volunteering, with 134 staff members taking paid time off for community work.
  • Invested in reforestation projects, contributing to the restoration of over 1,000,000m² of woodland in the UK.

Travel Chapter’s new Norwich office has also been designed with sustainability in mind, featuring solar panels, EV charging points, and energy-efficient lighting.

The move comes at a time when responsible tourism is a growing focus for both holidaymakers and property owners. Travel Chapter aims to support homeowners in making their cottages more sustainable, aligning with increasing consumer demand for eco-friendly UK staycations.

Kieran Keohane, head of sustainability at Travel Chapter, said: “These criteria give transparency to our actions, enabling us to take more accountability and review everything we do, ensuring that the company is always improving as we continue our journey to net zero,” he said.

Travel Chapter will be reassessed every three years to maintain its B Corp status, with plans to integrate the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals [SDGs] into future initiatives.

As sustainability becomes a bigger priority in the travel industry, the B Corp framework provides a benchmark for ongoing environmental and social improvements.
