US: Flexible-use hospitality and multifamily operator Placemakr will launch 28 short-stay apartments housed in the former Continental Hotel in San Antonio on 6 March 2025.
The Washington DC-based operator Placemakr has worked in partnership with real estate developer Weston Urban on the project, known as The Continental, powered by Placemakr.
The building has been vacant since 2016 when it was abandoned by the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District. Since 2023, Weston Urban has been working on the decaying facade and converting the rooms into 28 units including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments.
Placemakr said each space will be furnished by Williams Sonoma and equipped with WiFi, in-suite laundry, and full kitchens. Bookings are open from now and the apartments will be available for stays beginning in March.
Placemakr CEO Jason Fudin said: “Being a part of this restoration project with Weston Urban is exciting for us at Placemakr because it gives us the opportunity to bring an innovative concept into an iconic historic building. This launch is set to rejuvenate not just only the building itself but the entire surrounding area.”
The restored 1920s building will open as the first phase of a larger redevelopment led by Weston Urban. The 1.9-acre site will include 290 mixed-income housing units and 22,000 square feet of retail and commercial space.
